Excerpts from both Loma by Andres Osorio and Pet Play by Jenny King were presented on June 7th through New Dramatists as a part of their internship program. Bubeck staged and directed both pieces with the help of King and Osorio. Afterwards there was a short discussion with New Dramatists staff as well as cast and community members to assist with further development of the pieces.
Loma shares the story of a young man returning to his mothers home country of Ecuador for a family reunion. While there he is forced to think about how we tell stories, who’s stories we tell, and who has the right to tell those stories.
Pet Play investigates the relationships that New Yorkers share with their animals. Equally playful as it is heartbreaking, the vignettes in this piece force us to examine human compassion and how that is reflected in our relationships with our pets.
